THE HEART OF HEALING
“And be a blessing” (Gen.12.2)
Avraham had a precious stone hung round his neck which brought immediate healing to any sick person who looked on it, and when Avraham our forefather departed from this world, the Holy One Blessed Be He suspended it from the orb of the sun. (Baba Batra 16b)
It follows that the precious stone hanging on the pendant around Avraham’s neck rested on his heart.
In the blessings of the Shema recited in the Morning Service, reference is made to the angels on high who sing G-d’s praises, for he alone amongst other acts creates remedies. The allusion here is to the healing powers associated in astrology with the planet Venus which brings peace, joy and health. (Munk; The world of prayer, v.1)
The world-renowned healer Barbara Brennan, author of ‘Hands of light’ and ‘Light emerging’, confirms ancient mystic teachings that the heart centre of the human energy field is the seat of love and the main level through which healing is effected.
In the Kabbalah, Avraham our father is the archetype of hesed – acts of love, in the practice of positive Mitzvoth.
In the first prayer for healing, Moshe Rabbeinu addressed his petition to ‘E-l’. E-l is the divine name associated with the Sefirah – divine emanation, of Hesed.
The jewel that Avraham our father gave to this world is the healing power of hesed – loving kindness.
It is said that with every sick visit 1/60th of the illness is removed. The numerical value of the letters of lev – heart, is 30 for lamed and 2 for bet. 30 x 2 = 60.
Love is guaranteed to heal when it stems from the heart.
